Welcome to Sydmar Lodge

A True “Home from Home”

Sydmar Lodge provides bespoke care and support for people over the age of 65. The home offers residential, respite and dementia care and is aimed primarily at people from the Jewish community. We provide personalised care based on people’s choices, needs and wishes.

When an older person moves out of their home it is a major decision and we understand this. We aim to meet residents’ needs by listening to their wishes.

Our Philosophy

We aim to empower residents to make their own choices about how they live their lives. We believe that every individual irrespective of their physical, social or psychological condition has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and supported to maintain choice and control over their own lives.

We understand that people bring with them a life story of achievements, events and life experiences. We know that this information is essential to ensure a tailored care package for each individual’s specific needs, particularly for those with memory loss.

Award Winning Activities

Our previous Activities Coordinator, Robert Speker won the best activities coordinator award at the London Borough of Barnet Care Quality Awards. Robert said "I am delighted to receive the award in recognition of my work. The greatest appreciation is knowing that I have positively affected our residents' lives".

Robert made the activities unique, varied and exhilarating, consistently delivering a through programme of activities. Robert recently took a resident swimming for the first time in twenty years. Robert built up the intergenerational activities with regular visits from local nurseries and schools.
Sydmar Lodge Manager, Julie Davey commented “Robert continues to astound us with his creative, and somewhat ‘out of the box’ ideas, we were very proud to receive Outstanding for Responsive in our CQC visit in 2018, and this award goes to demonstrate sustainability in the activities department”

Sydmar Lodge also won the award for the best Care Activities Co-ordinator across the country in the National Care Awards 2021.

The judges’ commented:

‘It was striking through Robert’s own video, the testimonials and the outputs with the residents and families just how much Robert values each unique individual and their contribution’.

Sydmar Lodge also facilitated an amazing project to recreate some famous musical album covers and the results are amazing – we are sure that the residents had so much fun.’

This activity at Sydmar Lodge went world-wide, take a look below to see our residents channelling their inner icons;

Having won the award for the best activities co-ordinator across the country, Robert said: "It is incredibly humbling to be presented with this award. I try to dedicate myself to each individual resident to provide fun, engaging and unique activities. I greatly appreciate the award in recognition of my work, especially during the pandemic."

The activities at Sydmar Lodge were captured in the national and even international press, as our residents went worldwide (whilst in lockdown)…

What the press said

Winners of the National Care Awards were presented with their trophies by host Angela Barnes at the high-profile Gala Night held in November attended by over 650 guests.

About the Awards

The National Care Awards are an annual event organised by Caring Times, a management magazine for the social care sector. Caring Times reflects the opinions of the social care sector, focusing on news affecting the private, public and not-for-profit providers of nursing and residential care. The Awards were devised to celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, by highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care. There were 18 categories to enter overall and there were four or five finalists in each category.
